Reading & Language Arts
We are getting to know each other. We made name tents and answered questions on the inside. We wrote "I Am" poems and reflected on our strengths and weaknesses, how we can use our strengths positively and how we can improve on our weaknesses.
Homework every day: Reading Log! Sometimes we will have other homework as well, but every single day you should be reading for 30 minutes. You must log your reading each day and 3 times per week you will answer a question about your novel in your Reading Log packet. Every Monday I will be checking the Reading Logs.
You should be reading at least 2 novels per month (about 100,000 words). Every student should have at least 1,000,000 words read by the end of the year. After reading a novel, you need to take the SRC (Scholastic Reading Counts) quiz. Before you start a book, you might want to check to see if there is a quiz available. If not, you will need to complete a 2 page book report (templates will be available in the classroom. The first homework check will be on Tuesday September 8 for the upcoming week's work. This week we will be starting on Think-Pair-Shares and reflecting on what it means to be a "21st Century Learner." When the internet is connected in the classrooms we will be taking our first SRI test. You will then receive your Lexile score, which determines your reading level. Try to read books close to your Lexile level (not too far below and not too far above). More information to come... Take the poll below! |
